He stood a smokin' just a passin' by the time,
Watchin' the free ones work for their daily dime.
The foreman saw this and cracked him with his whip.
The slave glanced over, he didn't flinch one bit.

The headman said:
Foreman, you're new here,
Don't bother with that slave named Dover.
Mmm

He is a mean one
And no switch or whip will force him over.
Mmm

Later that evening, when the sun was setting down
The slave named Dover, he strolled across the town
To fetch some water, down by the river side
There he met two sirens, who'd come in with the tide

The sirens sang:
Hello, fair mortal,
We sing to warn, by the morn' take cover.
Mmm

Black ships with red sails
Cut through the sea,
to take your land over.
Mmm

True to word, at sun rise, the foreigners appeared
In the midst of choas, Dover headed for the clear
A maiden cried out, haulting Dover in midstride
He grabbed a soldier's sword and fought with all his might

The maiden sighed:
Thank you, o' brave one
For saving me from the war and plunder
Mmm

A slave you were
But to me you are a kind-hearted saviour
Mmm

With war far from them, they rested in the clove
The maiden, Collen, soothed the wounds that Dover held
He said don't worry, my being feels nothing
But she said, you saved me, so you must have felt something

He fell in love

His name was Dover
He was freed by war from the lands slave owners
Mmm

And ages later
His tales are sung, over and over
